“As someone working in tech, how can I get into angel investing?” I’ve made ~10 angel investments the past months and here’s how I went about it (thread) 1. Big tech alumni. After I quit Uber I got invited to the Uber alumni investment club. Huh? So apparently these exist

From a VP Eng: “We completely revamped our compensation structure after your articles. For years we though we were top 75th percentile based on Mercer data we bought. Little did we realise we’re 75th percentile in Tier 1. It’s a hard pill to swallow but glad we are doing it.” t.co/mnkdqP2AX8

Created this free resume template for sw engineers that now thousands of people use. Every week I get an interview invite for someone who forgot to replace their email with the default one. This week is the first time its from Snap. Replace the email… here’s the template: t.co/30GdJPMG0u

One very interesting trend I’m hearing: everyone is struggling to hire senior engineers, designers, tech leads. Except. Some well-funded web3 projects that are smashing it thanks to excitement, cash compensation + (token)upside. Keen to learn more on this. (DMs also open)

Every time I post a diagram about how big tech works - with a PRD/ERD process -, someone outside big tech shows up and assumes This Looks Like Waterfall Thus This Is Bad. Buddy. These places ship multiple times per day, and are more nimble than their competition using Scrum. t.co/ozmJMSjlCa

Coinbase will start to recruit engineers in the EU the coming months as part of their international expansion. Similar to Stripe, the EU team will also build&own local bank and payments integrations. Coinbase is expected to pay top of the market, similar to Doordash, Meta etc.

Was invited to join one of the largest EU tech lead/CTO communities. Looked through the list: ~95% of the members are men. I declined to join a club like this. Here I am wondering if 1. No other CTO member noticed this 2. If they did: why did they not do anything about it?

The importance of equity for employees: Hashicorp IPO'd at a $14B valuation yesterday. I know at least one engineer in the UK who made over $1M with their early equity grant. All Hashicorp employees did very well, thanks to the equity allocation they all got.

The market is becoming really, really hot for eng managers - following up on how hot it's been for senior engineers for a while. The "increase" in how much it costs to hire an EM is causing friction at the C-levels at some companies, and pausing hiring EMs who they *need*.

I think about this a lot. Why don't companies do it, especially when the $$ for seniors is skyrocketing? As a former eng manager: because most managers/teams know they suck at growing jr devs. At scale, you need to build out an internal apprentice/training program. Few do. t.co/HTcvMVCezM
