The market is becoming really, really hot for eng managers - following up on how hot it's been for senior engineers for a while. The "increase" in how much it costs to hire an EM is causing friction at the C-levels at some companies, and pausing hiring EMs who they *need*.

All of this is something that’s logical off the bat on the unprecedented demand for senior engineers. What is the cause of friction? EMs with a track record ask for ~20-30% more in base start than a senior engineer… whose base expectations are up ~30% YoY already.

By now, a lot of companies have made either made piece with the unprecedented costs it takes to hire sr engineers - or hire remote for less. For EMs, hiring local to company leadership is still preferred. If leadership is in the US, you’re in for a surprise on the cost.
