Your diet could include nightly ice cream right before going to sleep and you could still lose fat. If you save enough calories for the evenings, you can still have treats.

Reminder that your metabolism doesn't really slow down much at all as you age. On the other hand, you've probably gotten much less active. And you probably eat and drink more too.

When you want to gain muscle, keep a high protein intake. When you want to lose fat, keep a high protein intake. One of the keys to a healthy diet is a high protein intake.
