Lighter weights with perfect form > throwing around heavy weights aimlessly. Work to failure with slow, controlled reps and one set of that will be more effective than 5 sets of the other.

Bench press isn't bad for your shoulders. Squats aren't bad for your knees Deadlifting isn't bad for your back. Doing those exercises with bad form is bad for you.
