Narrow audience for this tweet among Japanese speaking real estate geeks who enjoy urbanism, but I really appreciate whomever found out which centimeter *precisely* the cafe ended and the public right of way begins to put out this instruction on how to avoid putting chair in it.

(The sign instructs you to look at this border and make sure you are on tile, not grout and not concrete and not blacktop. The grout, concrete, and blacktop are Tokyo’s.)

“Isn’t this pedantic nonsense?” Automatic agreement by all parties on exactly which flavor of pedantic nonsense controls is a necessary precondition to having nice things, like cafe terrace seating and 1.5 meters of sidewalk navigable to all pedestrians.
