With Bitcoin pumping to $30k... A lot of people are thinking: "Since $BTC pumped so hard, the altcoins will soon follow." This train of thought might get you rekt. Here's why and here's the better way to approach current market conditions: 🧵
Now. If you had that thought... You're not exactly wrong. Money flow in crypto begins from a $BTC pump before everything else follows. So yes. Eventually alts will follow. But "when" is the question. [img:uxAqIOA8C]
The general advice you were probably taught was to wait for $BTC to consolidate after pumps. Because that's when money will start flowing into altcoins. But somehow you always end up getting rekt following this advice. Why? Because of one thing. Bitcoin Dominance.
BTC.D (look it up on TradingView) indicates how many % of the total crypto market cap $BTC takes up BTC.D high = $BTC gets all the love and alts get no love. So in order for alts to perform... It matters less what $BTC is doing. But more what BTC.D is looking like. Example ⬇️
Let's look at $DOT as an example. By all accounts... $DOT is a large-cap altcoin. It is #13 in terms of market cap amongst all #crypto But look at this. $DOT pumped less relative to $BTC during the March pump. Okay. We know that. The attention was on $BTC at the time. [img:u_zoS-YRe]
But what about when $BTC was consolidating? Did you see $DOT go up? Nope. In fact $DOT started going down instead. And yet when $BTC went down... $DOT dumped even harder. See the problem? We need to fix that. How do we do that? ⬇️
The answer lies in BTC.D Before considering any large cap alts... Look first at BTC.D • Is it at key resistance? • Does it show signs of going down? No? Don't buy large-cap/mid-cap alts.
In this example here... Even though $BTC started consolidating after the pump... BTC.D did not go down by much. Then $BTC pumps. All the attention and money flows back into $BTC. BTC.D shoots straight up. Alts do nothing/dumps slightly. Cycle repeats until BTC.D hits key res [img:nubFaNWOC]
You might be thinking: "AOC what if $DOT is just a coincidence?" Let's look at other large/mid caps: $LINK (large cap) Similar gains. 2.5x bigger dump compared to $BTC [img:QqG25n5-q] $FTM (mid-cap) 50% more gains. 3x bigger dump. [img:inVAUTabg] $AXS (mid-cap) Same gains. 2.5x bigger dump. [img:ckRTaHWUl]
Crap... "What should I do then AOC? Just don't trade?" That's one way to do it. The best way is to focus simply on $BTC until BTC.D hits key res.
Many do not understand this. But patience is a virtue as a trader. We must understand that we do not come into the markets to trade. The markets GIVE us the opportunity to take a trade. Sometimes the best position is no position. Understand this... And you will be successful.
If you've been struggling with making trading work... Good news. I'm launching a free course soon. It's not going to be some basic bullshit. It's actually gonna change the way you trade. To control quality we're limiting spots. Join the waitlist here: theartofcrypto.co/join-skool-aoc
