I've done intermittent fasting for the past 365 days. Here's the surprising truth you need to know:

"Intermittent fasting" is often framed by gurus to be some magical tool to make you lose weight. In this thread, I'm going to destroy some claims made by the gurus. And also help you make the decision of whether or not you should start fasting:

Fat loss. IF will not guarantee weight loss... but, it does make achieving weight loss MUCH easier. If you only have 8 hours to eat, it's probable that you would eat fewer calories. Over the past year, I've easily been able to maintain the 10-15% bodyfat range.

Focus. Fasting increases BDNF in the brain (basically makes you mentally sharper). As an entrepreneur, my focus is very important. Over the past year I've found IF to be a great aid to my focus in the morning as I don't even have to think about food.

Decreased inflammation. If you feel bloated or inflamed, a fast is what you need. A waste removal process in your cells called "autophagy" takes place. Your body also builds resistance to oxidative stress. Both decrease inflammation in the body. I've experienced this 1sthand.

Live longer. There is evidence to suggest IF may help prolong your lifespan. Findings show that IF improves metabolic health & reduces the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes & cardiovascular disease. Over the past year, I've found myself still alive. So seems to add up.

How to do intermittent fasting: I fast for 14-18 hours/day. Black coffee in the morning, 1st meal 4-6 hours after waking, stop eating 2-4 hours before bed. I allow flexibility if I'm traveling or special occasion. I've found this to be sustainable as I don't set a HARD rule.

Should you do intermittent fasting? It won't be some magical tool that instantly makes you lose fat... But you may experience: • improved focus • reduced inflammation • easier to hit a calorie deficit Comment below your thoughts/experience with intermittent fasting.
