X rolled out making all likes private practically overnight. No gradual rollout, testing etc. What now happens is impersonator “burner” accounts place spam as a reply to a post. Bots add thousands of likes. Spam reply first one shown. Eg the first reply to Paul Graham: t.co/jh9TDelnFD
Here’s this impersonating account, that now looks like a possibly legit one thanks to the number of likes. Because likes are private, no one can tell if they are legit or coming from a bot army. (This means selling/buying bot likes will also become more common btw!) t.co/rg48u9ueeX
