“In India you can hire great sw engineers for 1/10th of what you’d pay in the US.” True that you can hire great folks. False that it’s cheap - quite the opposite. Here’s a recent an offer for a sr software engineer at Uber Bangalore: total compensation 106L/€120K/$142K/year. t.co/Q917eT8pPq
This offer is recent, and shows just how much the global software engineering market is heating up, especially for seniors. These numbers feel towards the top of the (Bangalore) market. But they exist, and I suspect they’ll become more common in big tech (if not already).
I know companies ones in the EU and the US still assuming they can hire amazing senior engineers with large-scale experience for $60-80K (€50-65K) everything included in India. These people exist, but those companies will be in for a reality check.
