"I signed an offer letter but have another, better offer. What happens if I turn down my signed one?" The same thing that would happen if the company rescinded your contract after signing (happens!), but in reverse. The hiring manager will get upset, but life will go on.

You'll likely permanently burn a bridge with this company: the same way companies burn a bridge with a candidate when they rescind the offer before starting. My two cents as a hiring manager: I'd rather people turn down (signed) offers than hand in their resignation on week one.

If you're in this situation and feel bad: know that it's happening a lot (thanks to the crazy hot market). Hiring managers, also prepare for this. Keep candidates engaged right until they start. A piece of advice I wrote in t.co/4pSmBEoQmE: t.co/viU58ppyc3
