A data point I keep hearing: There's a data engineering shortage. Companies are raising comp for existing data engineers (they're being poached), but also struggle to hire off the market. Some are starting do in-house training instead. Have more data points? Feel free to DM.

And this is beyond the "there's a software engineer shortage". What I'm hearing on data engineers is different. For software engineers, the case is often that companies cannot afford to hire the right engineers. For data engineering: hearing they can't find them, to start with.

It's also very interesting how, as someone on the job market, you can use this shortage to your advantage. Here's a smart and inspiring story from Lambda School graduate @EvidenceNMedia on breaking into the industry as a data engineer: t.co/BEjRvka7FH

Also, IKEA has started a Junior Data Engineer Accelerator program in Sweden, very likely as a response to this shortage t.co/bIIRA2s2SA From DMs, most companies are training in-house as well, usually working with engineers to involve them in the big data toolst/work.
