Nothing against Stephenson, he’s amazing. But the inspiration for the Network State is not really the fictional Snow Crash, it’s the very real state of Israel. That country was started by a book. And Herzl’s original is worth rereading today. t.co/nXeNTPMkCy t.co/6KW8qVmiwV t.co/rhj87o26qG

Herzl reads like a modern-day tech founder. All the way back in 1897 he was writing about how “distance has ceased to be an obstacle”, calculating the funds necessary to make his dream a reality, and marrying the practical to the theoretical. t.co/tjqNHmCKg5

Of course, there are multiple inspirations for the Network State. 🇮🇱 Israel, because it was started by a book 🇮🇳 India, because it achieved independence nonviolently 🇸🇬 Singapore, because of its founder 🇺🇸 And the US, because of its constitution Take the best parts and combine.
