Post Civil War (1870-1900) era in American business is crazy. - stock market was new. Some printed extra shares in basements, sell them for millions - no regulation. Ex) insider trading was legal. - trader groups regularly drove up stock then sold Reminds me of crypto today

Interestingly, this is how JFK father made his money. Insider trading. He helped drive up the stock price of Hertz (with help of the CEO) them sold at peak. No laws against it. Then he went on to create the SEC and made insider trading illegal. Ha
