new coinage, via "snafu": snamu "situation normal, all meaning-crisis'ed up"

the term "meaning crisis" makes less and less sense to me. is our access to meaning actually worse than before? in many obvious senses (e.g. access to culture & education) it's vastly better.

you had a story about how the world worked and it turns out the story is full of holes? doesn't this happen in every person's life as they age, and in every generation? has "doing philosophy" ever been easy?

maybe the meaning crisis is a modernist problem, i.e. a privileged-class problem. the holes in the story have always been there, for sensitive people to notice; what's changed is that the voices of the otherized are too loud to ignore now.

maybe i don't get it because i was raised between worlds as the child of immigrant parents. and they were unhappy ones too, so there was never any easy story for me to rest in.
