The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) s𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀 𝗮 𝗵𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗦𝗧 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 💸 Currently, the KMC gets around Rs 14.5 crore per month as compensation for giving away its right to collect indirect taxes like the Local Body Tax (LBT).
The LBT was scrapped after the Goods and Services Tax (GST) came into effect. The KMC officials have claimed that if the LBT would have been in place the civic body would have collected around Rs 250 crore annually with a 10% hike every year.
However, through GST compensation, the KMC is getting Rs 174 crore with an 8% increase every year. Civic chief K Manjulekshmi, in a meeting held with deputy CM and finance minister Ajit Pawar, raised the issue about the KMC loosing on revenue.
Meanwhile, the KMC has decided to waive the fine amount on water tax dues by 50% and 30% if the fine is paid in full in February'24 and March'24.
