Television manufacturers are pushing for a reduction in GST on TVs sized above 32 inches to 18% from 28% to offset a sharp rise in prices of open cell panels - the costliest part of LED TVs - imported from China

Prices of open cells, which are mostly imported from 4-5 suppliers in China, have shot up by over 35% for TV sizes above 32-inches, leading to about 10% rise in prices of large-sized TVs in India, industry officials said.
