Yet, its performance has not lived up to the initial expectations. The economy has not reaped the envisaged benefits, and the reasons are manifold. While tax collection has seen an uptick in recent years, there is a vast scope for significant improvement.
The GST Council, the driving force behind GST-related decisions, has done commendable work. However, the onus of initiating pending reforms falls on the next Union government, irrespective of its political composition.
The need of the hour is GST 2.0 - a version that not only aims to boost tax collection but also strives to enhance the overall indirect tax administration. The focus should be on improving the ease of doing business, thereby fostering a conducive environment for economic growth.
Letโs look forward to a reformed GST system that can truly unlock Indiaโs economic potential. ๐ #GST #TaxReform #EconomicGrowth #India
