Delhi chief secretary sacks tax official for fake GST refund orders Chief secretary Naresh Kumar dismissed a tax official for allegedly issuing illegal refund orders worth Rs 14 crore in 2021.

A Goods & Services Tax Officer (GSTO) with the trade and taxes department of Delhi Govt, the official was accused of "gross misconduct" between July 26 and Oct 13, 2021.

Officials said the accused tax officer will not only lose all pensionary benefits, he will also be disqualified from future employment in any govt office or agency.

According to the order, the official issued 122 refund orders worth nearly Rs.9.7 crore in just two months without verifying the credentials of the dealers.

"He approved refund orders worth Rs 2.2 crore on the same date of applying, and the remaining Rs 7.5 crore within five days. Illegal refunds amounting to Rs 4.1 crore were made to non-existent and non-traceable firms," said the order.

It added that the official illegally approved the amended application for migration of firms from one tax ward to another without verifying their credentials After detailed inquiry by Delhi govt's directorate of vigilance, it was proved that the GST officer indulged in misconduct

Accordingly, the disciplinary authority has imposed the penalty of 'dismissal' from services, which shall ordinarily be a disqualification for future employment under the govt," the order read.
