Affordable home appliances and smartphones ahead as government slashes GST rates The people of India received significant relief as the Union Finance Ministry declared a decrease in Goods and Service Taxes for electronic purchases on the sixth anniversary of GST implementation.
Concurrently, the government published a comprehensive list of items that will undergo reduced taxation post-GST implementation. Consequently, customers will be exempt from the 31.3 percent GST when purchasing electronic products such as smart TVs and mobile phones, among others.
Moreover, numerous home appliances and electronic goods will experience a reduction in GST rates.
In a bid to make mobile phones more affordable for customers, the government has reduced the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on these devices.
Previously, customers had to bear a GST rate of 31.3 percent when purchasing a mobile phone. However, this rate has now been lowered to 12 percent, enabling mobile phone companies to reduce the prices of their devices accordingly.
In a recent move, the government has reduced the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on TVs with a screen size of 27 inches or smaller from 31.3 percent to 18 percent.
However, the majority of consumers will not benefit from this change since most smart TVs have a screen size of 32 inches or larger, and they still attract a GST rate of 31.3 percent.
